This article describes how the owners of new lake home found doing away with huge investment on new carpets when they rolled up the old carpets only to find hardwood floors found beneath it.

Our friends recently purchased a home, not far away from our lake home which needed sprucing up. Hitherto, the home was used as a weekend gateway for a year by a family comprising several members who subsequently separated after their parents died and started living in the home on rotation during the weekends. With people frequently coming in and going out, the routine maintenance was left undone and a task on priority to be done now is to carpeting with quality carpets.

On taking ownership of the lake house a month ahead of moving out of the other home, they took time to tone up before actually moving in with their belongings. The very first thing I learnt when I walked into the house was mention of my friend about the need for recarpeting. The carpets would have been of best quality while they purchased but due to wearing away due to movement of time and rough use put in during weekends, it had resulted in color fade. When my friend brought several samples of carpets, the dealer who gave the samples suggested her to narrow down her choice before coming down to take measurements.

It was observed that the need for carpeting had extended up to the bedrooms and it was the carpet in the master bedroom which was in a good shape but of ugly color and needed immediate replacement. However, my friends were concerned about the cost of the carpets especially when it came to laying in three bedrooms in addition to in living room. It was mutually agreed by everyone that though it would initially cost high, the task would be easier for the carpet layers to lay the carpet before moving in the furniture. One way of saving the money was by removing the carpet on their own. When they started rolling up the carpet in the living room, they found a good shaped hardwood floor which needed just a cleaning and a coat of sealer. One dark spot which would have been caused by water was found and the same could be covered by a furniture piece. The friends were relieved to learn that the room had beautiful hard wood floor adding beauty to it besides they were not required to purchase the carpet.

Subsequently, my friend and I went for shopping to buy carpets to be used as area rugs and area rug decorating ideas in lieu of wall to wall carpeting as it was found to be less expensive and rendered easy change over when a different color was sought.

The lake home is now giving a better look with the carpets in the bedroom cleaner and looking better. I think our friends would be pleased with their efforts bearing fruits of labor.
