Databases are an integral component to the functioning of the Internet. A database is a grouping of data that is saved in a format that a computer can read. A university database table of student information, therefore, would include a row for each student with columns for his name, address, phone number, and other pertinent information. Each row of the table would list this same information in the appropriate columns about a different student.
The person behind any given data management system is an engineer. His main job is to think about the shape of the data and how it best fits on available disk and computer power. The same person is responsible for making the process reality, and dealing with issues that always manage to happen. Once operational, a plan for levels of security and access control must be put in place to prevent malicious modifications.
