OK....Now you have a new skid steer and your ready to go to work. Hopefully you have a few skid steer attachments. The attachments are just various tools or add ons to the skid steer that perform certain duties for different types of jobs.
What matters most in picking skid steer attachments is knowing what type of work you will be doing ahead of time. The Good news about skid steer attachments is that there are a lot of great skid steer attachments to chose from. The bad news about skid steer attachments is that you will probably not be able to own every attachment available.
Common skid steer attachments include: skid steer augers, skid steer booms, skid steer brooms, skid steer backhoes, skid steer bale handler, skid steer beach cleaner, skid steer brush mowers, skid steer brush rakes, skid steer buckets, skid steer cab enclosure, skid steer camera system, skid steer dozer blades, skid steer mulchers, skid steer forks, skid steer graders, skid steer log splitters, skid steer hitches, skid steer shears, skid steer sand bagger, skid steer post pounders, skid steer snow plows, skid steer snow buckets, skid steer, stump grinders, skid steer winches, skid steer trenchers, skid steer tree jaws and yes there are several more not listed here.
Our favorite skid steer attachment is the skid steer auger. Why you ask? We put in a lot of split rail fences on farm land. The old two man auger was nice but would absolutely wear you out after about ten holes. The skid steer auger attachment allows us to create post holes in no time. Most importantly it allows us to move quickly and cover more ground. The amount of time this attachment has saved us is unmeasurable.
If you live on a farm there is one chore you just can't avoid. Every farm needs hay. Some grow and bale their own, some farms buy hay from suppliers. Regardless, hay bales have to be moved. So I would say that my second favorite skid steer attachment is the skid steer Bale Handler. This attachment is great for lifting and moving big round bales of hay.
The one skid steer attachment that will give you the most bang for your buck is the skid steer extreme duty bucket. The tool is great for many jobs. The skid steer bucket allows you to move mulch, rocks, dirt, break up pavement and most of all save you time and your back muscles some pain. You definately want to buy a well constructed bucket. Some skid steer buckets are built more for cosmetics than for durability. Trust me they will not last. Make sure you buy a heavy duty bucket.
The Backhoe is also a very popular skid steer attachment. The skid steer backhoe is perfect for digging holes, landscaping, digging pools, septic tanks and trenches. The great thing about a skid steer backhoe is that you can get into smaller spaces and still do some digging. Lager heavy equipment is just not capable of squeezing in between houses to get into the backyard.
We have listed some of the more useful skid steer attachments. What about one of the more unusual attachments? By this we are referring to the skid steer beach cleaner - sanitizer. This might in fact be a great skid steer attachment for a public city beach maintenance crews or perhaps large beach resorts. The cleaner - sanitizer is capable of picking up small trash and debris and will even pick up tires and rocks. If you want perfectly groomed clean sand beaches, the skid steer beach sanitizer is well worth the money. It will save you a lot of man hours and furthermore once detached you will still have your skid steer for other chores.
